Founded in 1252, Sweden’s capital is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Built on 14 separate islands and surrounded by canals and waterways it has wonderful parks, cobblestone avenues and tree lined squares. Gamla Stan (Old Town) is like something out of a Hans Christian Andersen ginger bread fairytale. Weaving narrow streets lead you to cafes, antique stores and gift shops. Magenta and saffron coloured houses creak and lean in all directions. A visit to His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden, and his wife Queen Silvia’s Palace is a must. It is one of europe’s most impressive palaces with over 300 rooms and an impressive Royal Armoury. If you want to chill out afterwards. Visit the City’s really cool Ice Bar. Even the glasses are made out of ice.

Another highlight is Helsingborg. She stands 4km across the Öresund from its historic Danish arch rival Helsingor. Today a bridge links the two countries and these two proud Nordic countries are now umbilically linked. The first thing you will see is the town’s landmark Kärnan (The Kernel) a 35 meter brick tower at the upper end of the long market square (Stortorget). At the lower end of the Stortorget is the neo-gothic Town Hall (Stadshuset). Helsingborg still retains its medieval charm in the likes of Jakob Hansen’s house a half timber framed almost Tudoresque red brick building and there are many trendy wine bars and funky restaurants in this lively cobbled walking town.
