Heritage Expeditions was founded in 1984 by biologist Rodney Russ and his wife Shirley. It was born from a vision to promote conservation and responsible travel. Rodney's work with endangered species, like the Kakapo and Chatham Island Black Robin, inspired his belief that wilderness areas should be shared with the world. It was his mission to foster environmental stewardship. His philosophy that conservation and responsible travel go hand-in-hand continues to guide the company today.

Now run by Rodney and Shirley’s sons, Aaron and Nathan Russ, Heritage Expeditions offers small-ship cruises to some of the most remote, pristine places on Earth. With its own fleet—including the 140-passenger Heritage Adventurer and the intimate 18-passenger Heritage Explorer—the company takes you to the wilds of Antarctica, the Subantarctic Islands, the Kimberley Coast, Papua New Guinea, and more.
