The British Isles consist of a small group of islands largely made up of Great Britain, Ireland and some 6,000 lesser known and smaller isles. Not to confuse everyone, but  within this cluster is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Remember Ireland is parted into two: Ireland and Northern Ireland. And not to throw more confusion into the fray, the British Isles also include three Crown Dependencies: the Isle of Man, Jersey and the Channel Islands (which are not “physically” attached to the archipelago of the British Isles). And just to add more water to the fire, the mainland of Great Britain is shared with two other countries: Scotland and Wales.

The good news is that you can cruise to any of these countries, soaking up the tremendous history that stretches back centuries. From the Roman invasion, to the building of Hadrian’s Wall in Scotland,  William the Conqueror and the battle of Hastings in 1066, the British Isles has boomed. London may now be the financial capital of the Europe, but a lot of the landscape and architecture remains preserved. Art, history, beer, thatched cottages, cobbled stone streets, the British “Bobby” policeman, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Edinburgh Castle…the list is endless.
