Take a Falkland Islands Cruise to Port Stanley, home to approximately 2,000 residents that claim British nationality. This former whaling station is the capital of the Falklands and its only real town. Windswept and wet a lot of the time it has an obvious “villagey” feel to it. What little colour there is stems from the brightly painted corrugated wooden houses and a handful of swirling union jacks. It is worth stepping ashore for a pint in one of the old pubs and to explore the local museum. The locals are friendly and full of tales of the 1982 war. Port Stanley even has a totem pole and a whalebone arch. It may be rugged and remote but it is also warm and welcoming.
