BERGEN

Bergen or “the meadow among the mountains” is Norway’s second largest city and the gateway to Norway’s world famous fjords. Once the stronghold of Vikings it became a major trading port for the German merchant Hanseatic league. Bergen is situated in between a group of rugged scenic mountains known as De syv fjell “the Seven Mountains”. Home of the virtuoso composer Edward Grieg Bergen is a cultural mecca for many a top international band or artist. The beautiful Bryggen Wharf is a UNESCO world heritage site.

GEIRANGER

The forbidding towering sides of this snaking, writhing fjord looks like something out of Lord of the Rings. With sheer cliffs crushingly close for comfort the 20 kms long Geiranger Fjord has rightly been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Suitor, the Bridal Veil and the Seven Sisters waterfalls plummet and roar through soaring hills and mountaintops. Barren, remote and absolutely breathtaking. This is what fjord cruising is all about.

OLDEN

Olden is the archetypal chocolate box glacier farmstead destination. As part of Norway’s  Nordfjord system it takes you through the Oldedalen Valley with its shimmering crystal clear lakes  and the glitteringly massive Jostedal Glacier. American landscape artist William H. Singer (1868-1943) was so moved by the place he lived here for many years providing a road and a hospital for the townsfolk.
